Question About Meals

I am a 56 year old retired male. I have an undesireable weight that I am trying to reduce through a rather passive approach of daily walking and trying to adjust what and how I eat. I’m not approaching this a necessity, but rather a nice goal, so as much as I am commited, I do slip up.

Anyway, I aim to burn, and average, about 2500 calories per day while I take in on average 1200 calories a day, so obviously I maintain a deficit. This is not unusual for me, all my life I have taken in very little food through the day, abstaining from breakfast and lunch, relying on dinner and light snacks through the day and being quite active in my job. Probably not the healthiest lifestyle, but I got through without any struggle.

Although I am in a better position to eat more regularly, old habits are hard to give up. So, I still find myself eating most of my intake at dinner, however, I’m eating smaller portions to maintain this deficit.

My question is, since I take it little of my caloric intake through the day, is it “ok” to eat a bigger portion in one meal than to spread out smaller meals through the day? For example, instead of the recommended one fish filet, one boiled potato and a cup of vegetables for dinner, will I still maintain a weight loss direction by instead eating two fish filets, two potatos and 2 cups of vegetables for dinner?
