Hi guys,
I’m starting my diet soon and have a few questions that I’m hoping you can answer.
They are probably answers that I can find with a Google search, but I’m hoping here that someone can use small words to explain them simply, as I’m a bit dumb sometimes!
First of all, my details…
Age: 43
Gender: Male
Height: 193 cm / 6’ 4"
Weight: 131 kg / ~289 lbs
BMR: 2306
BMI: 35.2 (Obese, class 2)
And the questions…
-
Is it correct to say that with a BMR of 2306, I can consume 2306 calories a day and NOT exercise, and I will maintain my current weight?
-
I plan to burn a minimum of 500 calories a day through exercise. Do I add 500 to my BMR in order to get the number of total calories I should burn a day?
-
If the answer to question 1 is ‘yes’, I can consume 2306 calories a day. I plan to increase the deficit by reducing my intake. I am going to minus 1000 and 500 from my BMR, restricting myself to between 1306 and 1806 calories a day. Does this sound adequate?
-
One BMR calculator I consulted said that if I exercise daily, I can consume 3505 calories a day. This seems like an awful lot to me, does that sound correct?
So, to summarise…
I plan to consume between 1306 and 1806 calories a day, and burn a total of 2806 (500 through exercise.) Does this sound like a good plan?
Again, I’m rather confused with a lot of the information I’ve come across, so please feel free to give it to me in ‘The Idiot’s Guide To…’ style!
Thanks for reading.
